The head of Illegal Immigration Agency in Libya, Brigadier Mohamed Basher, has issued a decision to close four shelters without clarifying the reasons for his decision. According to the decision issued on Wednesday, Basher ordered the closure of Alurban, Alkraimiyah, Mizda and Alhadba shelters. Basher did not elaborate on the reasons for the closure of these centers, and merely described the decision as being in the public`s best interest as well as for better organizing the work of the Illegal Immigration Agency. The resolution states that the general force of the agency`s members and the migrants in these shelters will be distributed to the other shelters under the agency and that all the mechanisms, ammunition and equipment shall be handed over to the Director of the Supply Department of the Illegal Immigration Agency.

Members of the House of Representatives (HoR) of the western region met informally on Tuesday in the municipality of Swani Bin Yadum, south of Tripoli, which is the first of its kind since the election of the HoR in 2014. MP Ali Issawi said that the reasons for the meeting are to discuss the issues of dialogue and the stalemate in the political crisis experienced by the country, pointing out that their efforts are to bring different views closer together and emerge with a more unified position for parliament members of the western region. It is worth noting that a large number of MPs, mostly from the western region, are boycotting parliament meetings in Tobruk for an extended period of time.

Sources in Benghazi stated that Dignity Operation militants released the Amazigh human rights activist, Rabea Al-Jayash, on Tuesday. An armed group, under the command of Dignity Operation led by Ali Al-Amrouni kidnapped Al- Jayash on December 27 for using the Amazigh language while participating in a cultural event in Benghazi. The head of the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya, Ahmed Hamza, confirmed the release of Al-Jayash, adding that he is in good health.

The media outlet Rayed, has quoted the Acting Mayor of Sabha, Abu Saif Mohamed, as saying that he requested a support force to the security services in the city to aid in the elimination of organized crime in Sabha. Abu Saif confirmed that mercenaries belonging to the Chadian opposition control a range of sites in Sabha, including the Jabal Hotel, on which they are flying the Chadian flag on the roof. According to him, the Sudanese rebel group Janjaweed also controls the areas between Sabha and Ghadwa. Abu Saif described what is happening in the south of Libya as an occupation, calling for security forces to be sent, either from the east or the west, to expel these foreign armed groups from Libyan territory.

Foreign Minister, Mohamed Siyala, and his Niger counterpart, Ibrahim Yacoubou, have agreed to implement the proposal to open an air line between the capitals of Tripoli and Niamey during a meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Tuesday. According to the Information Office of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Siyala confirmed during the meeting held on the sidelines of the 30th Summit of the African Union that border security between Libya and Niger must be addressed to curb people and goods smuggling across the common border between the two countries.

The spokesman of the Municipal Council of Sirte, Mohammed Al-Amil, said Wednesday that UNICEF had completed maintenance work on 13 schools in the city. Al-Amil said in a press statement that the maintenance work was devoted to the rehabilitation of toilets in the schools, which lasted for approximately a month and a half, stressing that most of these schools were on the outskirts of the city of Sirte. The Special Representative of UNICEF in Libya, Abdul Rahman Ghandour, said on Tuesday that UNICEF is seeking 20 million dollars to help expand the response to urgent assistance for children within Libya.

The Minister of Economy and Industry, Nasser Al-Dersi, has signed a partnership agreement with the German company MAN SE for the joint operation of the National Trailers Company in Tajoura. The head of the Information Office in the Ministry, Hussein Al-Saghir, said that Al-Dersi met with representatives of the German company in Tunisia, adding that the two parties agreed to evaluate the status of the National Trailers Company in preparation of a partnership with the German company by a percentage of capital to be agreed by both parties at a later stage. The agreement will mark the beginning of a process of establishing supply lines at the headquarters of the two companies in Tajoura.

The High Council of State (HCS) has issued a statement to confirm their support for all sovereign state institutions, and in particular those headed by regulatory bodies and the Central Bank of Libya. The HCS called on all sovereign institutions to cooperate with them in a real and complete partnership to create economic measures to improve the living conditions of Libyan citizens. In their statement, the HCS commended efforts made for the return of the people of Tawergha to their homes and called for intensified efforts to ensure the safe return of all displaced persons, both internally and internationally.
