The head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Sarraj, arrived on Wednesday evening in the German capital of Berlin for an official visit to Germany, after his visit to the US capital Washington. The Media Office of the Presidential Council reported that Sarraj will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday in the Reich Chancellery, adding that the two sides will address bilateral relations and a number of other common issues.

Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Council, Ahmed Maitiq, met with the South Korean Ambassador to Libya Kim Yong Chai on the occasion of his end of his term in office. Maitiq thanked the Korean ambassador for developing bilateral cooperation relations, especially in the field of Korean companies resuming their contracted projects in Libya. Those present at the meeting also discussed the efforts exerted by the security services in Libya to ensure the security of workers of foreign companies, especially South Korean companies.

The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) released a statement on Wednesday, confirming that a French court in Nanterre has ruled in favor of the CBL, in a case which would see the Kuwaiti company Al-Kharafi releases a 100 million dollar loan owned to the Central Bank of Libya at the Credit-Agricole Bank. The CBL also noted that the judgment, issued by the French Court on the 28th of November, requires the Kuwaiti company to pay the expenses immediately after the implementation of the ruling. The CBL clarified that they filed the lawsuit on the 11th of April last year against the Kuwaiti company, adding that the Kuwaiti company had worked to exploit the political and institutional division of the Libyan state, and use a previous judgment which was set in their favor.

The French Deputy Ambassador to Libya Iyad Jaber presented an invitation to the National Oil Corporation (NOC) to participate in a workshop to be carried out by French companies in Tripoli during the first half of next year. The invitation was presented during a meeting between the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NOC, Mustafa Sanallah with the Deputy Ambassador of France on Wednesday at the headquarters of the NOC in Tripoli. According to the official website of the NOC, those present also discussed oil relations with French companies and ways to strengthen and develop those ties as well as the challenges facing the NOC and its subsidiaries and efforts to improve the security situation to stabilize production and the flow of oil in all oil fields and ports.

he Jalaa Hospital for Surgery and Accidents in Benghazi, received five dead bodies and 12 wounded from Dignity Operation forces during the past three days, resulting from battles with forces of the Benghazi Shura Council, which are located inside the Sidi Khribish area. Dignity Operation forces to have desperately sought to take control of the area, which is one of the last strongholds of the Benghazi Shura Council in Benghazi. Dignity Operation forces have not succeeded in controlling the area so far despite repeated attempts and daily aerial and artillery bombardments.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced that more than 14,000 illegal immigrants have been deported from Libya to their countries of origin this year alone. The IOM confirmed the expansion of their voluntary humanitarian repatriation program and the implementation of a large-scale airlift operation, which they expect will add the capability of the IOM to repatriate another 15.000 illegal immigrants by the end of this year. The organization stated on their official website that the establishment of a joint task force aims to ensure that the migration crisis in Libya is addressed in a coordinated manner with all parties concerned.

Chairman of the Presidential Council, Fayez Sarraj, has stated that Libya is demanding the management of its frozen assets abroad and not to lift the freezing. Sarraj added by explaining that the frozen assets have suffered losses, and that his government is seeking to overcome them. He reiterated during his meeting with US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross his wish to conclude agreements with the US government, which should encourage, support and guarantee investment and avoid double taxation.  He added that his government`s plans are parallel with attention to oil and gas production, energy, electricity and reconstruction, in addition to the country's urgent need to develop the infrastructure of state institutions.

The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salame, said that army and police institutions, the Central Bank of Libya and other institutions should be unified as soon as possible. According to the official Facebook page of UNSMIL, Salame stated during a meeting with a group of academics and journalists on Wednesday in Tripoli that there are inactive institutions in Libya that should be reactivated, especially in the economic and social fields. He also stated and that there are institutions that have been hijacked by those who are currently managing them, which must change in order to serve the Libyan citizen. He added that he is communicating with all the Libyan people to help him identify a plan for the Libyan issue.

Claudio Descalzi, chief executive of Italy’s Eni, has stated that his oil company has stepped up production and exploration in Libya rather than focusing on mergers and acquisitions, which has made it more competitive in Libya over the past eight years. Italian media outlets quoted Descalzi on Tuesday as saying that Eni is not concerned with the activities of its French counterpart Total in Libya. Eni is currently operating in the exploration and production and the gas and power sectors in Libya. Among the mega projects is the Greenstream pipeline, which exports around 280 billion cubic feet (7.9 billion cubic metres) per year of natural gas from Mellitah Complex on the Libyan coast to southeastern Sicily Island. From Sicily, the natural gas travels to the Italian mainland, and then onwards to the rest of Europe.
