In a meeting on Friday with the UN envoy, Ghassan Salame, in Tunis, mayors and heads of local councils of the western region called on Libyan interlocutors and the UN Mission in Libya to exclude the controversial figures who had a negative impact on the political life in the country. In a statement on Saturday, the mayors said that municipalities should be involved in the amending of the political agreement as the matter relates to public affairs, security and stability, and to assist in its implementation, demanding the UNSMIL to provide genuine guarantees for the implementation of the agreement and its amendments.

Under the supervision of the General Company for Electricity and Renewable Energies, the Benghazi Municipality executed a project to install solar lampposts on the Benina International Airport route. “The lampposts will extend to 13 km and will be funded by the UN Development Program in Libya within the projects supported by the United Nations in the country”, the Information Office of Benghazi Municipality explained.

The International Conference on Earth Sciences on Libya - Geo Libya 2 - kicked off in its 2nd session at the Medical Colleges Complex at Benghazi University on Saturday. The conference brought together Libyan university professors, experts and specialists in geology with representatives of local and international oil companies concerned with scientific research and earth sciences for three days to discuss and lecture on the studies of sedimentary rock sciences, vertebrate and nonverbal fossils, remote sensing, geology and oil geophysics studies.

The Italian government has sent an urgent humanitarian aid to illegal migrants in the cities of Sabratha and Zuwara, The Italian Embassy in Libya announced. On Twitter, the Italian Embassy said that the aid reached the two cities in coordination with the International Organization for Migration. The head of the illegal immigration Agency in Sabratha revealed earlier that more than 3000 immigrants were seized while attempting to immigrate to Europe.

The Organizing Committee of the Tripoli Marathon is preparing for the second version of the long-distance running race, which was initiated on Facebook pages last year and later became a special sporting event. The second marathon is expected to host up to 2000 participants compared with the previous year with 450 competitors only. In a press statement, member of the Organizing Committee, Adel Al Mashout, said that the preparations are still at its civil and community level, calling for more support for this event to reach the goal of breaking the record of the highest participation in similar events. He added that the race date will be on November 25.

The Tunisian Ports and Fishing Agency has warned fishing boats of approaching Libyan territorial waters after orders issued by Libyan Naval Forces to strike any boat passing or approaching the Libyan coast. The Tunisian Press Agency quoted the head of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries, Abdulrazak Krishan, as saying that the Libyan warning will be taken seriously to avoid what he called any potential danger, owing the problem to the lack of clarity of the maritime border between Libya and Tunisia. Krishan called on the authorities of both sides to work on the border demarcation in order to avoid sailors from getting into trouble.

The United Nations Mine Action Service said it had offered training for 12 of the Libyan military engineers to improve their explosive ordnance disposal capabilities. According to the department, the training program, which was held in Tunis for a month, included advanced knowledge of conventional ordnance disposal techniques and emergency medical trauma response that could threaten life during duty.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced that it had provided food assistance to 6,000 people in Suluq and Qaminis towns, in addition to 4000 others in Benina in east Libya, with the aim of helping them meet their daily needs. On its Facebook page, the ICRC said that residents of these three regions have long been suffering from difficult economic conditions as the lack of currency, high prices and irregular sources of income. The Committee noted that the assistance included food, tarpaulins, blankets, mattresses, kitchen utensils and hygiene kits.
