Central Tripoli Municipal Council confirmed the release of the mayor, Abdel Raouf Beit El-Mal, late on Thursday. Tripoli Municipal Council members praised efforts made by the security forces to release the mayor after being kidnapped by an unknown group. It is worth noting that Beit El-Mal was taken from his home, last Wednesday, to an unknown destination by an unidentified group. Later, A security agency under the Presidential Council announced that it was responsible for the arrest of Beit El-Mal as a result of ongoing investigations into what they described as abuse of power.

The head of EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM), Tagliaferri, has apologized for one of the members of the mission sitting in the seat allocated to Libya during the 37th Session of the Enforcement Committee of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in Brussels. This came during a meeting with Foreign Minister, Mohamed Siyala, in Tripoli on Thursday. Siyala called for the respect of Libyan sovereignty, saying that “Libya will not be represented or spoken for except for by Libyans.” He also demanded to take decisive measures to preserve the prestige of the state and its sovereignty.

The technical committee of the project named “Towards achieving national reconciliation in Libya” held discussions with the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, and the Minister of State for Displaced People’s Affairs, Yousef Jalal, regarding the safe return of the people of Tawergha and the reconciliation process between Misrata and Tawargha. Those present at the meeting discussed recent developments in the reconciliation process, proposing concrete steps to overcome the obstacles impeding the implementation of the agreement between the two parties, and called upon the Presidential Council to support the full implementation of the Tawergha Return Agreement, including security and justice measures.

Sources in Sabha stated that there were renewed clashes with heavy and medium weapons on Friday between the forces of the 6th Infantry Brigade and gunmen belonging to the tribe of Tabu. The sources said that the clashes centered in the vicinity of the Sabha Castel when Tabu gunmen attempted to take control of the headquarters of the 6th Brigade, without any details of any losses from either side. The city of Sabha has been the scene of sporadic clashes between the two sides, during which a number of people were killed and wounded while great efforts from several parties to reconcile and end the conflict are underway.

The Ministry of Health of the “Interim Government”, based in eastern Libya, announced that a high number of people were killed in an ISIS attack on the eastern entrance of Ajdabiya, stating that the number has reached 6 dead and 9 wounded. The ministry said in a statement that the condition of the wounded ranged between critical, medium and light, noting that the wounded are being treated at Mohammed Magarief Hospital in Ajdabiya. A car bomb exploded on Thursday evening in the eastern entrance of the city of Ajdabia. According to a statement circulated by local media, ISIS claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The World Health Organization (WHO) office in Libya announced on Friday that a team of pediatric cardiologists had arrived at the Tobruk Medical Center headed by William Novick, a professor of child health at the University of Tennessee in the United States. The team arrived in Libya on the 25th of March, and will remain for 4 weeks to provide specialized clinical care for more than 200 Libyan children suffering from heart diseases and conduct heart surgeries for 36 to 44 children. It is worth noting that the World Health Organization has organized several previous visits by this team in Libya, starting from 2012 until 2016.

The director of the Information Office of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company, Mohammed Al-Khamriya, reported on Friday that the company had halted the work of its factories and units to conduct the annual maintenance. Al-Khamriya added in a press statement that the company will cease operations from now until mid-April. It’s worth noting that the Libyan Iron and Steel Company has not conducted any periodic maintenance in recent years due to the lack of spare parts for the units.
