A delegation from the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), headed by Ali Mahmoud, held discussions with the EU Commission in Brussels regarding a joint working mechanism to be applied between the EU Commission and the LIA to ensure the protection of the LIA's domestic and foreign assets.

Mahmoud said that many meetings will be held during the coming period to develop a joint mechanism to ensure the protection and following-up of the Libyan assets.

For its part, the EU Commission confirmed their support for the Board of Directors of the LIA, which works under the Presidential Council.

The Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Mahdi Wardami, met with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed Sudani, on the sidelines of the 88th session of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) in Baghdad.

 During the meeting, they both discussed aspects of joint cooperation between the two countries.

French energy giant Total said on Friday that they have bought a 16.33 percent stake in the Libya’s Waha concession from Marathon Oil in a deal worth $ 450 million.

Total said in a statement that Waha Oil Company owned by Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), currently produces 300,000 barrels of oil per day and is expected to increase to 400,000 barrels by the end of the decade.

The deal will give Total access to reserves and resources estimated at more than 500 million barrels with an immediate production of about 50,000 barrels per day and great potential for exploration in the Sirte basin in the future.

Total already operates in Libya with a production quota of 31,500 barrels per day (bpd) in 2017 with concessions in the offshore rig Jarf and the Sharara oil field.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has concluded a workshop to ratify the study of the analysis gathered on the status of the educational system in Libya.

Organizers of the workshop noted that there was a participation of 40 key educational staff at the discussions.

Feedbacks were provided to further refine the study and ensure its future use, ensuring the future quality of education, which is the key in the future for children in Libya.

The US Embassy in Libya has announced the graduation of more than 50 Libyan explosive ordnance disposal personnel.

The Embassy said in a statement on Thursday that the graduation comes as part of a training program with the support of the US, British and German governments to safely dispose of explosive hazards, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

For its part, the British Embassy in Libya said that its country supports the program to reduce the risk of explosive materials and remnants of war in Libya in order to enhance the capabilities of Libya to address the dangers of explosives in a safe manner and to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their areas.

The President of the High Council of State (HCS), Abdulrahman Suweihli, met on Friday with the Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Libya, Stephanie Williams, at his residence on the sidelines of his visit to the Tunisian capital.

Those present at the meeting discussed the latest developments regarding the political situation, the latest developments regarding the UN action plan for Libya, as well as proposals put forward by the HCS to amend the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA).

Suweihli stressed the need for the United States of America to play its role with the international community to rein in those who try to derail the political process as well as beneficiaries of the continuation of the status quo.

For her part, Stephanie confirmed her country’s support for the political process within the framework of the LPA and under the auspices of the United Nations so that stability returns to Libya.

The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed on Thursday their deep concern regarding the military escalation in the Libyan city of Sabha, noting that at least 6 civilians were killed and 9 others injured, while the city’s hospital were repeatedly targeted.

The UNSMIL added that the indiscriminate use of weapons in densely populated areas must be stopped immediately.

The Mayor of Misrata, Mustafa Kerwad, opened the Made in Libya Exhibition on Thursday.

The 4-day event is organized by Al-Raed Alliby Company for Consulting, Development and International Cooperation under the patronage of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company and the Sada Industrial Furniture Company.

The opening ceremony was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Jaber Baraka, and a number of officials and representatives of the participating parties in the exhibition.

In his speech, Kerwad praised the organizers of the exhibition and the efforts exerted to show local products.

He urged the establishment of such exhibitions, which would promote local products so as to compete with imported products.

The exhibition will feature several pavilions for local industries, products and materials, and will continue until the 4th March.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reported that 146 civilian casualties, including 13 deaths and 133 injuries, were reported during hostilities throughout Libya in February 2018.

The victims, include 9 men, 2 women, 1 girl and 1 child, who lost their life, and 119 men, 6 women, 7 boys and 1 girl who were wounded, the UNSMIL stated in a report published on Thursday.

The UNSMIL report also stated that most of the civilian casualties were caused by explosions of improvised explosive devices, and 1 death and 116 injuries were caused by firearms, and 7 deaths and 8 injuries were caused by remnants of war.
