The High National Election Commission of (HNEC) said the number of voters registered in the system has reached an unprecedented hike as it hit (2,005,814) at 10.00 pm on Friday. It added on its website that the number of female voters is still ascending as it was last week, reaching 41% of the total registered voters. Registration of voters will go on till February 06 and Libyans abroad will start on February 01 their registration via emails, the HNEC added.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announced the complete elimination of the Category 2 chemical materials removed from Libya and transported to Germany for destruction. The Director General of OPCW, Ahmet Üzümcü, stated that the event marks a historic occasion for disarmament and international security. “It heralds the end of Libya’s chemical demilitarization process and another step towards fulfilling the core goal of the Chemical Weapons Convention – the complete and permanent eradication of all chemical weapons.” Üzümcü added. During the ceremony, the Director-General presented a certificate to the Libyan government in recognition of the complete destruction of all its declared chemical weapon stockpiles.

Italy said Friday it had formed a new operations room with Libya that is tasked with intercountry crimes such as smuggling and human trafficking. Italy’s embassy in Libya said on Twitter “New control room against transnational crime, human smuggling and terrorism, set in motion today in Rome by Italy and Libya in presence of Interior Minister Marco Minniti. This room will result in enhanced judicial and police cooperation, strengthened rule of law, rights and guarantees, and increased information exchange.”

The UK outgoing ambassador Peter Millett said he felt very sad that the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) was not implemented. In a blog marking the end of his service in Libya, Millett highlighted some important details and dates that were not tackled properly. He said personal ambitions of some Libyans got in the way of implementing the significant decisions in Libya. “It takes time to build Libya from the scratch, Libyans must be aware of the goal they aspire for and must concede for the best of the country.” Millett added.

Spokesman of the House of Representatives (HoR) Abdullah Bliheeq said the law of the referendum on the constitution is ready at the legislative committee, saying the committee is the one entitled to present it to the HoR for voting. He added that the committee is working on finalizing the law and there are no problems hindering their work. Bliheeq added that the work is constitutional and legal and needs effort and time so that the results can be of balance and consensus for all Libyans.

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) signed with the Libyan Education Ministry a contract that will see assistance to the curricula and syllabuses committees in Libya. ALESCO added on Friday that experts will be providing Libya with the needed aids to have a very significant change in the Libyan curricula, especially in the primary schools, let alone examinations and other educational matters.

The President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy, Lara Boldrini, said Libya and Italy’s agreement on immigration was wrong as it was done without measures to guarantee the rights of the immigrants. Aki reported Boldrini as criticizing the work stance of the Interior Minister Marco Minnitti on immigration, saying that the fact that immigrants are not arriving in Italy because they are being sold like commodities “did not leave me at ease.” “Libya detention centers are controlled by human traffickers as well, and some of them sold immigrants.” She added.

Libyan and European economy figures held a meeting in Tunisia on Thursday to review the necessary channels through which they can support Libyan Industry and Commerce Chamber via the EU funding program that is worth 7.8 million euros. The program is implemented by French experts and experts from German Agency for International Cooperation. EU Delegation in Libya said the meeting also discussed the new role of the Libyan Industry and Commerce Chamber to boost social and economic development in the country.

The Libyan Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority said Saturday that illegal immigrants from Morocco were repatriated via Mitiga airport as part of the voluntary return program of the IOM in cooperation with Morocco. Morocco repatriated over 400 nationals last December, expressing fears that some could be linked to IS or other terror groups. Some Moroccans went into a hunger strike in November over lack of action by their country toward their issue.
