Clashes renewed Saturday afternoon between Marada Brigade of Dignity Operation led by Khalifa Haftar and gunmen believed to be from IS terror groups. Three of Dignity Operation fighters and one gunman were killed on the Marada-Zallah road, according to eyewitnesses. The Brigade also reported that the clashes erupted as it was scouring the area nearby Dahra oilfield, explaining that it clashes with the same gunmen on Friday.

One Dignity Operation fighter was killed and two others wounded in clashes against a group of alleged ISIS militants in central Libya on Friday. Marada Brigade of Dignity Operation said three attackers were also killed when they attempted to blow up the railway station of Waha Oil Company near the oasis town of Zalla. The brigade added that its fighters are chasing the other militants after escaping to the desert.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya issued Thursday its human rights report on casualties in Libya for the month of January 2018. The report documented 102 civilian casualties – 39 deaths and 63 injuries – during the conduct of hostilities across Libya. The Victims included 33 men, 1 woman, and 5 boys killed and 62 men and 1 boy injured. “The majority of civilian casualties were caused by Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs, 30 deaths and 56 injuries) followed by explosive remnants of war (ERWs, 6 deaths and 5 injuries), gunfire (2 deaths and 2 injuries) and shelling (1 death).” The report reads. The UNSMIL report clarified that 36 deaths and 63 injuries were recorded in Benghazi, 2 deaths in Tripoli and 1 death in Abu Kammash.

The Head of the Russian contact group on Libya, Lev Dengov, announced the release of the Belarusian military expert Vyacheslav Kachura on Friday after seven years of detention in Libya. Dengov added that the release was secured after lengthy successful negotiations. He pointed to the fact that the Chechen President was personally involved on the case by being in constant contact with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russia Libya contact group. According to the Russian media outlet Sputnik, the military specialist Kachura came to Libya in July 2011 with a Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian group and was arrested by the revolutionaries in August of the same year for collaborating with Gaddafi regime officials.

Foreign Minister, Mohamed Siyala and his Tanzanian counterpart, Augustine Mahiga, have agreed to make arrangements for Tanzania to pay its debts to Libya on the sidelines of the African Summit held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa late last January. The Foreign Ministry's Information Office said in an official communique that Siyala had agreed with Mahiga to start repaying the Libyan state's financial dues and to agree to a Libyan government delegation to make arrangements for the repayment of loans borrowed from Libya in previous years.

The Operations Room of Omar al-Mukhtar, which follows the command of Dignity Operation, targeted Derna Shura Council (DSC) positions in the Dahr Al-Hamr district south of the city with heavy artillery on Thursday evening. The head of the Media Office of the DSC, Mohamed Mansouri, said in a press statement that the military preparations being put in place by Dignity Operation forces are for propaganda purposes and to instill fear among the people, stressing that the DSC is ready to repel any attack on the city.

The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) announced the end of the first phase of unspent weapons clear up after they were able to gather a large amount of remnants of war that had put the lives of Misratans and Libyans in general at risk. The Media Office of UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said that over two hundred tons of explosive remnants of war were destroyed with the support of the governments of Denmark and South Korea. UNSMIL`s Media Office added that reducing the risk to the public from remnants of war would extend beyond Misrata in a second phase aimed at destroying more than two hundred tons of war remnants with the support of the French government.

The General Assembly of the African Football Confederation (CAF) has elected President of the Libyan Football Federation, Jamal Jaafari, as a member of the Executive Office of the CAF. The election was held in the Moroccan city of Casablanca in the presence of the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino. The result came after an electoral process in which Jaafari won enough votes to serve as a member of the CAF's executive office.

Libya will partake in the second conference on the influx of immigrants next Tuesday in Rome, Italy. Italian Foreign Ministry said Friday that the conference will hold at the initiative of FM Angeleno Alfano under the title "Shared responsibility to achieve a shared target: Solidarity and Security." Besides Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Chad, France, Germany, Malta and Italy as well as other countries which share the same issues will take part. The conference will build on the first version, which was held on July 06 last year and was based on European-African cooperation to limit the migration influx.
