The Mayor of the Tunisian town of Ben Gardane, Fathi Abab, has confirmed the failure of negotiations with the Libyan side regarding the reopening of Ras Ajdir border crossing, Al-Nabaa Libyan news channel reported.

Abab explained that the negotiations came to a halt after the Libyan side insisted on ending the sit-in of Tunisian protesters in the town of Ben Gardane first before taking any further steps, adding that the negotiations will be resumed in the coming days in order to find a solution to this issue.

Tunisian protesters have been closing the road to Libyan travelers heading to Tunisia since last July in protest against the measures adopted by the Libyan authorities to limit the smuggling operations through Ras Ajdir border.
