The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL)‎ has condemned the arbitrary arrest of Ali Al-Rifawi, a correspondent for the 218 TV channel in Sirte.

The Internal Security Agency, Sirte branch arrested Al-Rifawi on March 26 against the background of a media report covering the work of Sirte's Municipal Council.

In a statement, the NCHRL demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Al-Rifawi, holding the Internal Security Agency of Sirte the legal responsibility for the journalist's safety and fate.

It renewed its call for the Attorney General's office to open comprehensive investigations into the crimes committed against the freedom of press and media and hold accountable the perpetrators involved in crimes against journalists in Libya.
