Governor of the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) called in a statement on Sunday for explaining the circumstances surrounding the issue of releasing the frozen Libyan funds' interests in Belgium, which amount to 2 billion euros.

He said he was never consulted at the decision to lift the freeze when he was in the post of Treasury Secretary, during the disposition of Libyan frozen funds at the Belgian bank Euroclear.

The former director-general of the Belgian Treasury, Mark Manbalio, ordered the freezing of the Libyan funds' interests under European directives.
