The Director-General of the National Centre for Disease Control Badr Eddin Al Najjar expected an increase in the number of leishmaniasis cases, due to the shortfall of medications for this disease and the halting of the leishmaniasis control program.

Al-Najjar appealed to the state authorities to urgently provide the medicines required.

He attributed the increase in the number of cases last year, to the cessation of the national program for leishmaniasis control, as a result of the deterioration of the security and economic situation in the country.

He also pointed out that the number of cases last year has amounted to 8,000 cases.
