A group of mayors from across Libya met on Saturday with the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Williams, and called on the UN mission to accelerate the transition towards national elections and decentralization.

The UN mission said that Williams briefed the mayors on the progress made in the ongoing political, military, and economic intra-Libyan talks.

The mayors urged the transition to national elections and "insisted" on the rapid implementation of the decentralization process in order to meet the basic needs of the Libyan people in terms of the delivery of services, according to the UN mission.
