The member of the House of Representatives (HoR) of Benghazi Siham Sirgaiwah described the request of Khalifa Haftar to be granted the powers of the Supreme Commander of the army, as a coup against the legislative authority represented in the HoR.

"Haftar was appointed without elections and the only one who is authorized to remove him or to retain him is the head of the HoR Aqila Saleh, who put him in this position, Sirgaiwah said on Monday.

Haftar has asked during the Palermo conference, to be handed over the powers of the supreme commander of the army until the presidential elections, which was rejected by the heads of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj and the High Council of State, Khaled al-Mishri.
