The latest update of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has revealed that more than 9,000 migrants were returned to Libya between January and June 2022, including 656 women and 342 children, after they were rescued in the Mediterranean, in addition to the death of 156 and the loss of another 565 migrants.

Last Saturday, the Italian Navy announced that it had begun transferring the first 600 migrants from the island of Lampedusa in Sicily, after the refugee identification center on the island was overcrowded with new arrivals of migrants.
