The Al-Hasawna-Al-Juffra Water System of the Man-Made River Authority (MMRA) announced on Tuesday that well No. 241 in the western field had permanently and totally been put out of service after unknown assailants attacked and destroyed it, sabotaging all equipment and electrical appliances and cutting electrical cables inside the control room.

The MMRA stated on its official Facebook page that this attack raises the toll of bombarded wells, to 174 of which the maintenance teams were capable of restoring 29 to service, however, the rest were totally and permanently put out of service due to the vicious extent of destruction of their major components.

It warned that the continuation of these reckless attacks threatens the water security of the entire country, appealing to the security and police authorities to assume their full responsibility to protect the wells and fields, in order to maintain the continuous flow of water safely to cities and areas of consumption.
