Misrata municipality rejected holding elections in their current "flawed form" as they undermine freedom and "bring back despotism," reiterating that Libya needs now to establish a civil state based on a consensual constitution that lead Libyans to elections to end transitional phases.

The municipality called on the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) to apologize so that it reaming on track and to reject the candidacy of those who were part of the suffering of Libyans, asking it to be on the side of the nation and people. It also accused the HNEC of working politically not administratively and thus violating local and international laws.

Misrata electoral management shut down polling stations in the city in protest by the people of the elections laws that allow Khalifa Haftar and Saif Gaddafi to run for president of Libya. Likewise, Zliten, Al-Zawiya, Al-Khums and other cities in west Libya shut down HNEC offices protesting the same issue.
