The Ministry of Transport called in a statement on Saturday the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame to visit Mitiga International Airport to verify that it is only used for civilian purposes.

The ministry reiterated that it welcomes the visit of Salame and his deputy Stephanie Williams to the airport at any time, to see for themselves that the airport is not being used for military purposes, as mentioned in Salame's briefing before the Security Council.

Salame sent a letter of apology to the Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha for what he said "some inaccuracies" in his recent briefing to the UN Security Council.
