Italian Interior Ministry disclosed Tuesday that the number of illegal immigrants who landed in Italy has halved during 2019 compared to the year before.

The ministry's data showed that a total of 11,471 migrants arrived in Italy this year, down by 50.72% from 2018, when 23,210 people reached Italy's coasts, according to Aki news agency.

The trend this year further increases when it is compared to arrivals in 2017, when 119,369 migrants reached Italy's coasts, or 90.39% more than this year.
