The Head of the veterinary medicine center at the Ministry of Agriculture Zakariya Al-Khattal said Tuesday that diagnosis of imported livestock at the ports is ongoing, adding that Libya is a member of the World Organization for Animal Health, which bans importing sick animals.

Al-Khattal added that vets are running medical tests on the livestock at the port, yet the center is still suffering from acute shortages of vaccines as it has not received any budgets since 2014.

He also said that there is an outbreak of diseases among a certain number of cattle in Libya and “this could lead to financial loss, but not impact on humans.”
