A man got killed on Tuesday after throwing a grenade at a checkpoint in the city of Sabratha, said the Ministry of Interior.

More than five people sustained injuries, including members of the security patrol stationed at the checking point.

The dead-armed man was in a car with three other individuals. They had weapons and seemed to be drunk, the ministry explained.

The security personal asked the group to get out of the car and hand over their weapons, but during this time, one of them took out a hand grenade and removed the safety pin throwing it at the security officers, which led to his death, and the injury of his companions and five members of the patrol.

The ministry said it took all legal measures against the perpetrators.
