A man has been arrested for looting artifacts from an archaeological site in Sabratha, security services in Sabratha confirmed on Wednesday.

The security directorate of Sabratha clarified in statements to The Libya Observer that the 56-year-old man was acting alone trying to make some money from stolen artifacts.

The move comes as part of the extensive security operations launched by the Interior Ministry to hunt down criminals and establish security and stability across the country," the security directorate said.

The thief confessed during interrogation his involvement in criminal activities related to looting archaeological goods and was referred to the Public Prosecution Office to undergo legal procedures, according to the security services in Sabratha.
