The Maltese Foreign Minister, Evarist Bartolo said that his country is awaiting instructions from the Libyan authorities in order to release 1.2 billion Libyan dinars it had seized from a shipment intercepted in 2019.

Bartolo said in a press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, in the capital Moscow that he understands how much Libya has suffered in recent years, indicating that he hoped that the country could use the funds for the good and wellbeing of the Libyan people.

The shipment was believed to be headed to warlord Khalifa Haftar who was, at the time, mounting an offensive in the vicinity of Tripoli.
