Foreign Minister, Mohamed Sayala reaffirmed during his meeting with the head of the UN mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame and his deputy for humanitarian affairs, Yaakoub al-Helu, the need to work diligently, in order to provide the necessary guarantees for reopening Mitiga Airport.

"UNSMIL should play a greater role in halting the shelling and direct targeting of civilian installations," Sayala said.

For his part, Salame expressed his deep concern over the targeting of Mitiga International Airport, stressing the mission's keenness to stop such violations and that it is seeking to establish the necessary safeguards to ensure that such attacks would not be repeated.
