Libya's Coast Guard managed to rescue 23 illegal immigrants, among them Libyans, attempting to reach the European shores.

The rescue operation took place on Wednesday, about 18 miles north of Mellitah, the Information Department of the Libyan Navy said.

It also clarified that 18 of the rescued migrants were Libyans among them two women.

The migrants were transferred to Al-Nasser immigration centre in Zawiyah city, after providing them with humanitarian and medical assistance.
