Libya's Coast Guard has managed to rescue 20 illegal immigrants, off the coast of Mellita district, near Zuwara city, west of Libya, said the Libyan Interior Ministry on Sunday.

The Ministry explained in a statement that the General Directorate of the Coastal Security received a report regarding a group of migrants stranded in their damaged wooden boat about 18 miles east of Mellita.

A patrol moved at once to the site and picked up the migrants, bringing them back safe to the shore.

The migrants who were of different nationalities were given immediate humanitarian and medical attention in Zuwara, according to the Interior Ministry.
