The Secretary-General of the Libyan Red Crescent, Mari Al-Darsi, presented a brief overview on Tuesday to the US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, the embassy's staff, and the United States Agency for International Development, about the organization's work in the area of life-support, as the largest and oldest national humanitarian organization in Libya.

The Libyan Red Crescent emphasized that its action team on the ground is working in the front lines and making every effort to mitigate the impact of the conflict on the civilian population as well as to stem the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, noting that its network consists of 8,000 volunteers distributed across 36 branches throughout the country.

In this connection, the US ambassador said "Libya is fortunate to have such people working to alleviate the suffering in their country."

He expressed his country's desire to see an end to the armed conflict in Libya as soon as possible in order to let authorities focus on the coronavirus pandemic threatening public health in Libya.
