Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha discussed with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino on Tuesday the security situation in the capital in light of Haftar’s aggression.

Bashagha stressed that Haftar's militia attack on the civilian airport of Mitiga in Tripoli constitutes a war crime.

"The danger on Tripoli will only be eliminated once Haftar's militias were forced back to their bases," Bashagha said, according to the ministry's Information Office.

For his part, Buccino expressed his country's alarm of the continued targeting of Mitiga Airport, emphasizing that the Italian embassy will continue to function from Tripoli despite all circumstances and will cooperate with the Government of National Accord (GNA) as the legitimate government in the country.
