Libyan embassy in Washington confirmed retrieving an artifact (funerary marble head) that was stolen from the city of Shahat by a group of artifacts' thieves who tried to sell it in an auction in New York.

The embassy told Libya Alahrar TV that the New York District Attorney's department for countering trafficking of artifacts said the case of the funerary marble head was closed after about three years of investigation.

The embassy said it had been in contact with the State Department and National Security Department about the case until the selling of the artifact was foiled, adding that the charge d'affaires would receive the artifact in a special event on January 12 before taking it back to the embassy, which has so far retrieved two artifact (a similar funerary head was also retrieved before).
