213 illegal immigrants were rescued north-west of Zliten during two separate operations carried out by the Libyan Coast Guard.

"The migrants were picked up by a coast guard patrol after receiving a distress call northwest of Zliten," the Coast Guard Information Office explained, adding that they were handed over to the illegal immigration control centre at Al-Khoms city.

Those on board included Libyan citizens, as well as migrants from Egypt, Yemen, and Sudan, in addition to others of different African nationalities, according to the Coast Guard Information Office.
