The Tunisian Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights announced on Tuesday that the Libyan authorities had released 11 Tunisian fishermen who were detained in the port of Al-Zawiya, accused of illegal fishing in Libyan waters.

The head of the Observatory, Mustafa Abdul-Kabir, stated that the release of two Tunisian fishing vessels, along with their crew of 11 sailors, came following the payment of fine and fishing tax, having been detained fishing in Libyan territorial waters.

Abdul-Kabir explained that the Tunisian sailors have not been transferred to the Libyan judiciary system, adding that it is expected that a further Tunisian fishing boat, including four sailors, are due to be released later on the same date, with no further legal action to be taken.
