Libya, along with Niger and Zimbabwe have recovered their right to vote at the United Nations General Assembly after paying off part of their debts to the organization, a UN official said Wednesday.

The deputy UN spokesman Farhan Haq confirmed in a statement to the AFP that the three countries "paid enough that they can vote in the General Assembly," but did not disclose the amount of the payments.

The three countries were deprived of the right to vote last week, while Libya had to pay at least $705.39 of its total debt.

Article 19 of the United Nations Charter states that "a member of the United Nations which is in arrears in the payment of its financial contributions to the Organization shall have no vote in the General Assembly if the amount of its arrears equals or exceeds the amount of the contributions due from it for the preceding two full years.”
