Libya’s Ministry of Labour has signed a memorandum of intent (MOI) with its counterpart from Niger on mechanisms to reap the benefits of labour migration for their respective countries as well as migrants themselves.

The MOI was signed during an EU-funded event held by the IOM in Tunisia that brought together 14 key regional and international partners to enhance international cooperation on labour mobility.

According to the EU Mission in Libya, the MOI represents a first step toward the establishment of bilateral agreements to facilitate procedures and implementation of migrant labour regulation.

“Currently in Libya there are at least 650,000 migrants out of which 70 percent of them are workers." The EU Mission reported.
