The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Marine Resources, Abdul Basit Al-Ghunaimi, on Monday, discussed with Deputy Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Libya Matt Huber cooperation in the fields of agriculture and the combating of pests, in particular, the date pit scale, also known as the green scale that is spreading and threatening palm trees in the Jufra region.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the National Project for Palm Development Abdel Salam Al-Madani and Director of the Plant Health Center Mustafa Al-Zarouq, besides several experts in this field.

The officials agreed to an urgent plan to combat the green scale, which has caused damage to palm trees in the Jufra region known for its abundant production of dates.

Minister of Agriculture confirmed in a press statement that a campaign will be launched early next year to address the matter, in cooperation with the IOM and civil society organizations in the region.
