Foreign Minister Mohamed Siyala has expressed Libya's condolences for the killing of the Italian ambassador to the Congo.

This came during a phone call by Siyala to his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio on Tuesday, according to a statement by Libya's Foreign Ministry.

The Italian Foreign Minister, reaffirmed during the conversation his country's support for a political solution and ceasefire in Libya, stressing the mercenaries must be evacuated.

Italy's ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Luca Attanasio, 43, was killed in an attack in the east of the country Monday after the United Nations convoy he was traveling in came under fire near Goma.
