The African Union (AU) heads of states and government elected Libya as First Deputy Chairperson of the AU during the 30th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, state-run Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported.

LANA said the post constitutes a political achievement for Libya and supports its position on the African and regional levels as a significant country with considerable weight on the African continent and the Arab world.

Libya was also elected Vice-Chairman of the AU Ministerial Follow-up Committee on Agenda 2063.
