The head of the Central Committee for the Local Government Elections, Salim bin Tahia, said that at least 69 municipal councils out of 120 councils, may not be able to hold the elections in March, due to lack of funding.

Bin Tahia told Reuters that the elections will need at least 50 million Libyan dinars, pointing out that the committee has received at the moment only 30% of the amount required.

"Without these funds, the committee would not be able to launch programs to raise awareness of the importance of holding municipal elections," Bin Tahia said.
