The residents of the desert town of Jikharra held a protest on Saturday outside an office for the Wintershall Holding GmbH demanding the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and the German oil producer to implement their promises to the town people on development projects.

In a statement made by the residents, they demanded the NOC to grant the town people access to jobs as agreed with the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation during his visit to the town, in addition to the need to implement the recommendations of the 1st Environment National Conference, as well as the treatment of chronic diseases within the town.

The protesters threatened to close oil wells within the farms and housing schemes if their claims were not met.
