Italy hailed the decision of the High Representative of the European Union's Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, to deploy a European mission of monitors to oversee the Libyan elections on December 24.

Meanwhile, the Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi di Maio met Borrell in Rome on the sidelines of Mediterranean Dialogues last weekend, according to Italian news agency, Aki.

Di Maio said the European decision was a sign of the commitment of the EU toward Libya, saying a comprehensive and credible elections are vital for institutional transition in the country.
