Italian Interior Minister, Matteo Salvini reiterated Tuesday, his country's rejection to open its ports to 500 illegal immigrants stuck in the Mediterranean for days now.

Salvini pointed out that Libya had offered to disembark around 350 of them on its shores.

He also told the Italian Aki news agency that he is making every effort to prevent the disembarkment of those illegal immigrants in Italy.

A number of NGO ships announced on Monday the rescue of a number of migrants from off the Libyan coast, confirming that the search and rescue operations are still on for any other migrants, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
