Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said Monday that the situation in Libya was among the issues he discussed with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

Draghi said during a press conference at the end of the summit that Libya remains a priority for his government at this stage, indicating that he sensed a desire on the part of the Libyans to cooperate and aspirations on the part of Italian companies.

However, he did confirm that many projects “require security” in order to be completed, and this requires moving forward on the ceasefire and pressing for the withdrawal of foreign fighters, which is the only way to start rebuilding the country, as he put it.
