The European Union (EU) announced on Thursday the appointment of Italian born Natalina Cea as head of the EU Border Mission in Libya (EUBAM) to assist in the management of Libyan borders.

Cea is set to succeed Vincenzo Tagliaferri, who held this position since September 1, 2016.

The EU indicated in a statement that Cea is set to begin her new position from February 1 next as the head of this mission.

This position was created by the EU for the first time in 2013 in order to support the Libyan authorities’ efforts to impede the activities of organized crime networks within the framework of the common security and defence policy.
