The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure in the Italian government, Danilo Toninelli, denied any increase in the influx of immigrants from Libya as a result of the current military escalation.

"Italy will not change its policies on illegal migration even if the flow of migrants increases," Toninelli stated, pointing out that Rome is working for the stability of Libya after it was shaken by "others", as he put it.

Italian media reports referred to the presence of about 100,000 people in Libya ready to leave to Italy.
