Italian Foreign Minister welcomes Suweihli in Rome

After a meeting between the head of the High Council of State, AbdulRahman Suweihli and the Italian Foreign Minister, Angelino Alfano, in Rome on Friday, the Italian Minister stressed that his country regards human rights issues in Libya with the utmost importance, pointing out that his country is ready to participate through Italian non-governmental organizations and assist international humanitarian organizations.

Alfano stated during a press conference that Italy has shown their utmost interest in the cause of human rights in Libya, and their willingness to participate through non-governmental organizations, and through the six million Euros pledged to assist international humanitarian organizations such as the UNHCR and International Organization for Migration.

For his part, AbdulRahman Suweihli stated that immigration to and from Libya has been greatly reduced thanks to Italy's assistance to Libyan institutions.
