Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Milanesi said that restoring security and stability to Libya is important for his country, but this could not be through controlling the influx of illegal immigrants alone.

Milanesi explained in a press statement from Brussels that Libya's geographical location off Italy's coast renders the issue of stabilization critically important, stressing that the migration file requires special attention.

He also called for the need to develop the capacity of respective states, including Italy, Libya, and Malta, to address the issue of immigration.
