The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has called on the European and African Unions to develop a new approach to the migration issue in Libya and take prompt steps, in order to end the detention and protect illegal immigrants.

The organization said that within the last 48 hours 10 boats have set off from the Libyan coast carrying more than 600 illegal migrants, due to the escalating security situation in the capital Tripoli and the surrounding areas.
