The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Libya returned 140 migrants of Bengali nationality to their home country from the city of Benghazi on Thursday, including nine individuals suffering from minor illness, in the first voluntary flight for humanitarian return from the city.

Prior to boarding the plane, the deported migrants were given medical examinations and Coronavirus testing, along with personal protective equipment.

The IOM indicated that in excess of 53,000 migrants have been returned from Libya since 2015, with the support of the European Union (EU) and the Italian Migration Fund, according to a report by the official website of the IOM, which noted that the operation has been completed without hindrance.
