The Interior Ministry upgraded its security alert in the capital Tripoli to prevent any security breaches by criminals and suspected ISIS militants.

"The Interior Ministry has raised the state of alert among its forces to face ISIS extremists and outlaw groups," Interior Ministry spokesman, Mohammed Abu Abdullah said.

Abu Abdullah assured at a joint press conference with the Passports and Nationality Authority that all facilities and diplomatic missions are totally secured, adding that the suspension of licensing demonstrations and sit-ins will only be temporary, due to security concerns.

He also confirmed coordination between the General Directorate of security operations and the Electoral Commission to secure the municipal elections in the coming days.
