The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) of Libya announced the extension of Promoting Elections for the People of Libya (PEPOL) project until the end of the year 2021.

This came during a meeting held between the Chairman of the HNEC, Imad Al-Sayeh and the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Gerardo Noto, on Tuesday at the headquarters of the HNEC.

Both sides signed the extension agreement and discussed methods of supporting the HNEC in its preparations for the upcoming general elections, due to be held on December 24.

Promoting Elections for the People of Libya (PEPOL) project is a three-year multi-donor basket fund which aims to improve the institutional capacity of the HNEC to prepare for and deliver credible elections in Libya, jointly implemented through an integrated UN team of electoral experts of UNDP and the United Nations Support Mission to Libya (UNSMIL).
