The Libyan High Council of State has denounced the continued attempts to hold elections on unsound and non-consensual bases, adding in a statement that there is a deliberate avoidance of tackling the disagreement on the elections laws and the demands of Libyans in several municipalities and across a variety of political and social parties.

The High Council of State said the ownership of the political process should be purely Libyan and the international community should play an assistance role to find consensus among the parties.

The statement reiterated that the real obstructing force to the holding of elections is the party that issued flawed and unconstitutional laws to base those elections on them, in addition to the parties and individuals that worked with that party and supported its violations, referring to the House of Representatives, calling for more consultation to reach an acceptable, consensual process.
