Members of the High Council of State representing the city of Derna, Mansur Hasadi and Hassan Estetah, called on the President of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, Joaquín Alexander Maza Martelli, to take urgent action to lift the siege that is draining the life out of the city and to introduce the necessary safeguards to avoid a humanitarian disaster.

In a message, the two members also urged Joaquín to send a UN team to the city to determine the humanitarian situation, stressing that the siege of civilians is contrary to international law.

They also demanded that civilians be spared from the current conflict and their human rights be protected from any military or political struggle.
